While an inpatient I had a physical problem going on. The staff refused to believe it was genuine and treated me accordingly. I nearly defecated in my pants when a staff member refused to let me go to the restroom. They talk about the patients in front of them and not politely. When asking for help I was greeted with eye rolling and negative comments about me to other staff indicating they thought was a hypochondriac. Very unprofessional.

The psychiatrist upped a powerful antipsychotic, which turned out to be causing symptoms of Parkinson's Disease which causes you to lose your physical and mental abilities. Luckily a specialist later realized the cause of the symptoms.

They also made you go to bed an hour and a half early at 9 pm, so they could do their paperwork maybe?

One of the exercises they made you do was toss balloons around. What this was supposed to accomplish I don't know, but their bill to insurance was $11,000 for such "therapy."

The people I was most impressed with were the recreation leaders who were very positive.

The best thing about this place is the food, which was exceptional.

This is what I call HELLSTONE, they treat you awful, most staff is rude, and You are told you can sign out AMA, DON'T do it then they will keep you another 48-72 hours. I was lied to so many times. I might have actually seen my DR 45 seconds everyday, the staff made fun of and like to play mind games with you. They shine a mag flashlight in your eyes every 15 minutes to make sure you still alive, an in my case after I tried to escape they had me on unit restriction and couldn't eat with anyone else. I had a nurse outside my bedroom (which had dead bugs everywhere ) shining the light on my eyes every 5 minutes, the torture you, mental and emotionally abuse you in anyway thy think is possible. When I tried to escape out the cafeteria I went to the wrong door and ended up trying to fight to get out, another came from no where and hit my back, neck and back of my head. They put everyone on drugs to keep everything calmed down, I stopped taking my meds and they still don't know how I did it. If you are not truly crazy when you go in you will be insane if you ever get out. I was covered from had to toe with bruies from the abuse. DONT EVER TAKE anyone you care about there. I heard voices while in there on their meds out in the real world I hear normal thing. It is a place that scams the state of Indiana. My prescriptions were called in to Walmart and Walmart didn't have it but the cost of 2 scipts would have been $ 1200 a month! This is a experimental hospital and ripping of the state of Indiana. I have a attorney for that and a few other things that have happened. I would give them 0 stars if that was the choice. They kept me there 11 days! Don't take your loved ones there, I have to seek REAL Psychiatric help and therapy after being at HELLSTONE.

I was admitted here a few year...

I was admitted here a few years ago (February 2011) and I hated every minute of it. I spent my days there in the group for teenage girls. They have very strict rules they use to cover something else--they have 'boundary rules' preventing you from hugging another patient, even if both of you want to. They say you can't pass contact info (phone numbers, addresses, email info...) with someone else, yet you spend pretty much every waking minute with this group unless you're unit-restricted or with your doctor. You had to do everything with your group, no matter how different your situations were (it's a behavioral hospital and I was in there because I had a mental illness, not a behavior problem). I had no time to myself, as I also had a roommate for the duration of my stay, though not the same one every night. At one point I wanted a new roommate and I was told it'd be taken care of, which it never was.

The only redeeming qualities in my eyes were my doctor and my social worker. My doctor was on top of things; I was told he discussed the possibilities of what I could have with my parents before he even met me, asking them if I had the symptoms of this or that, and he did find out what was wrong and got me started on the road to learning to cope with it. My social worker kept in contact with all of us and did her job well, keeping us in the loop. Other than that, I don't really have many nice things to say. I know it's been awhile since I stayed, but I doubt things have changed much.

I had my father admitted here for 10 days. What a joke of a place. I thought it was a great place, until I found out this.
My father didn't bathe, shave, missed most of his meals, etc. The doctor never called us nor met with us about my father's care. He said he had dementia. So, why didn't the staff see that he got cleaned up and ate? They knew he was shy and didn't remember things. I even told them that my father didn't have any soap to shower. I explained it twice that if they had liquid soap they need to tell him it was soap, cause he was used to bar soap. He never had soap the whole 10 days there. He didn't even shave and we took his electric razor and it was kept at nurse's station. He never use any personal items from the cabinet. People in his ward even told me to make sure and feed him when I got him home, because he missed every breakfast due to them not waking nor telling him to go to café. He drank a lot of coffee and snacks that where kept in meeting room. They said laundry was done there. Lucky we told extra clothes or he would of been in dirty underwear for 10 days. Plus, the doctor assigned to him Afaq never put him on new medicine, he was on the medicine before he came there. I feel they neglected my father in SEVERAL ways. No care was really given. My father was in worse shape upon coming home then when he went there. The social worker is the only good thing I can say about this place. She was very helpful and sorry for all the issues, we incurred while here. DO NOT TAKE A LOVED ONE TO THIS HOSPITAL..

Our attachment disordered child, got much worse while he was at Wellstone. He went in for increased aggression and a possible medication change. He was beginning to spiral down. He was allowed to run wild at Wellstone; we never saw any of the behaviors he was displaying there. Constant group settings encouraged him to seek negative attention from the other struggling kids. The kids are not brought to visit their parents. We witnessed a situation where a waiting dad was told, his child did not feel like a visit. In our case, we were told our son was too out of control to come visit. We asked to go to where he was; we quickly calmed him down and he was great at the visit. As soon as we left, he went back to what he was doing and required his third tranquilizer within four days. Yes, our child has issues; he was abandoned and we adopted him at ten-years old. I acknowledge his multiple diagnoses and problems, but this hospital has not helped him at all.

I was there from Feb, 9 to the 17th, although i was withdrawn at first. I fell I received the best treatment available to me. I feel so much better. I went in for server depression and anxiety, I had a wonderful social worker (Allison) and thee best psychiatric ( Dr, Jaggers). All other staff where very helpful. If I am ever in need of the services I received, I will return to Wellstone with out one ounce of regret.

wish i had known

My child is currently in Wellstone Regional Hospital. She was in Scott Co. hospital for two days and then transferred here I attempted to sign her out of here on Friday and was told if i tried. to take her out AMA they would call cps i signed the paper and was told there policy is a 24 Hour hold after it was signed on the way home cps contacted me and said if i attempted to sign her out that they would detain her so i agreed to leave her in until Monday so I agreed to leave her there until today. (Monday ) when i came to get heretoday i was told i had to leave her until Wednesday I signed another AMA form asked to speak with the dr. was told he wasn't in so i am currently waiting to see him as i wait CPS once again called me and told me if i attempt to take her out they will detain her here they are saying they will release her Wednesday i can't take her out before Tuesday's afternoon and they will detain her for a whole 24 hours what. is the point. i know my child have been dealing with her mental health issues for 4 years now i am a lpn i can keep my child safe i know what to do for her she has met all of her goals over the weekend. i think its simply for money and no other reason. Her therapist Autumn is very smartellicy thinks she knows best for everyone and as another person stated in their review their one size fits all approach doesn't work with my child. If you ever want your child home do NOT bring your child to this facility.

Do not take your children here...

Do not take your children here. Not everyone that works here is "bad" but some of them just do not need to work around children. They are incredibly unorganized, which is scary when you consider the types of meds they usually try to put kids on. They do not stay in contact with the parents like they say they will and when you bring up a concern, they make it seem as though your child is lying. They do not supervise the kids well enough. If children are in there because they have a tendency to have violent outbursts, they should be watched closely enough that they do not have the chance to strike another patient. When you pay enough attention, you realize everything going wrong. They also treat you like you are a bad parent if you decide to sign your child out AMA (against medical advice) and they say things like "well, if you gave us more time to help your child". Help my child? PLEASE.. More like scar him for life. I have nothing nice to say about this place and deeply regret my choice to allow them to keep my child for the 4 days that they did. Also, if you are the type of parent that actually wants to see your child, don't count on it here. Both times I went to visit we were taken back to the visitation area very late, but still asked to leave at the scheduled time. If I'm told I have an hour with my child, I should have an hour with my child. My child and I shouldn't have to suffer for their poor planning skills. I will never take my child to them again, they truly did more harm than good. Maybe the people running this place and prescribing harsh meds to children should read the hypocratic oath again. DO NO HARM! Treating children like prisoners is harming them. Also, having a ridiculously high standard in the form of an unrealistic points system is not helping the children in there that have issues with expecting themselves to be perfect. Pediatric Psychiatry is not a "one size fits all" and shouldn't be treated as such. I could honestly go on and on about the things I witnessed.
