Dr. Bigler, the President of Gateway Dermatology, P.C., is a board certified dermatologist. He enjoys treating patients with all varieties of skin diseases. He is especially passionate about diagnosing and curing skin cancer. Dr. Bigler received extensive training in Mohs surgery and all forms of skin cancer treatment at the University of Iowa. Dr. Bigler previously practiced Internal Medicine for ten years and served in the United States Army Medical Corp in Internal Medicine for two years.

Botox
BOTOX® is an FDA-approved treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet lines in adults. It is also used to soften the horizontal lines on the forehead. BOTOX® targets the underlying cause of dynamic wrinkles, which are wrinkles that occur only when you are animating. Over the years, through the repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, and raising your eyebrows, lines will develop. When you inject BOTOX® into the muscles that cause these movements, you are temporarily reducing the muscle activity. You may begin to notice results in as little as 24 to 48 hours, but it may take up to 2 weeks to take full effect. BOTOX® results vary from patient to patient, but on average, the treatment lasts for three months. The Botox effects will begin to fade and facial features will gradually return to their former state. Maintenance treatments are necessary to keep the effect for long periods of time.

Eczema
Eczema also known as atopic dermatitis is a chronic skin condition that involves irritated and itchy patches of skin. It is common in childhood, but may not manifest until later years. Children who develop eczema have dry and scaly patches appear on the scalp, forehead, face, cheeks, folds of the arms, the back of the knees, and wrists. No matter where it appears, eczema is often very itchy. Scratching can also lead to a skin infection. It is important to remember however that eczema and its symptoms are different for everyone. Eczema tends to run in families and is commonly associated with other conditions.
Fungus
Athletes Foot, known medically as tinea pedis, is a contagious fungal infection that affects the skin on the feet and can spread to the toenails. Anyone can get athlete’s foot, but it is commonly found in athletes. You can catch the fungus through direct contact (skin to skin) or indirect contact (skin to object). The fungus thrives in warm, moist environments such as showers, on locker room floors, and around swimming pools.
Lesions
Acne is the most common condition in the United States that causes blocked pores (whiteheads and blackheads), pimples, cysts and other lesions on the skin. Acne may occur on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and upper arms. Each year 85% of teenagers are affected, but adults of any age can also suffer from acne. Acne is not life-threatening, but untreated acne can lead to permanent scarring and damaging emotional effects for patients of any age. Research has revealed that excess oil, clogged pores, bacteria, and inflammation can be leading causes of acne.

Psoriasis is a chronic condition. It is not contagious, but it is lifelong. Psoriasis is the most common autoimmune disease in the United States, affecting approximately 7.5 million people. The hyperactivity of the immune system can result in painful, scaly, inflamed patches of skin (plaques). These plaques typically are located on the elbows, knees, or scalp. Though psoriasis varies from person to person, people with the disease may deal on a daily basis with pain and itch, as well as low self-esteem, relationship problems, and feeling stigmatized because of how they look.
