Dr. Tierce and staff are not only top notch, but they are kind and caring. We have a cat that he saved after two other vets told us to put him down. It took four major surgeries and four months but he is fine now. We made many unannounced visits back to where the animals were caged. We saw only well cared-for animals and caring staff members. I believe what's going on now is nothing more than a witch hunt. And people suing for a million dollars over a dog that they ordered put down!!! Please.

This place was raided by the Humane Society of North Texas for animal cruelty on April 29th, 2014. Dr. Lou Tierce was keeping animals alive, owners were told they were euthanized, for blood transfusions and other medical procedures. DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE!

I had almost the same issue as CP, who reviewed on 2/3/2014. After a lengthy stay, Dr. Tierce refused to release my dog to me, so I contacted the Veterinary board in Austin. They said he cannot do this, so I pretty much elbowed my way past Tierce and took my dog home. NO follow up instructions, etc.Sadly, Tierce did not pull bone samples from my dog during surgery, so the diagnosis of bone cancer was totally missed. I have known Tierce for many years and he is losing his edge with age. His clinic is filthier than I have ever seen it.

Dr. Tierce has done two surgeries on my dog. I was impressed with the amount of attention he pays each patient and owner. I think he keeps up with his education and has extensive knowledge regarding animals. Our first surgery, ACL repair, went well. We had a successful year, then found out we had to operate on the second leg. After that operation, he informed me of a problem with the first leg. This was something he discovered pre-surgery, but decided not to let me know about until three days after the surgery had been done on the second leg. I would not have proceeded with the second surgery if I had known about the issue with the knee-cap on the first leg. It was very important to me that we have a solid leg to rehab on and I had expressed that fact. He assured me the leg was sound. Then, due to excessive turn-over with staff, one of his techs was letting my dog do things that were harmful to her leg. He also has a problem with being very over-bearing with his treatment plan. As if he is the only one making decisions for the animal. I feel like three people were involved in those decisions. Dr. Tierce, myself and my husband. He insisted on keeping my dog excessively long after her surgery (not my opinion - this is based on industry standards for this particular procedure), and I had to almost wrestle my dog away. The first surgery, he screamed at me in his lobby almost throwing a tantrum. At the time, I felt it was due to the fact that he is a little bit of a control freak and is looking out for the best interest of the animal. The second surgery, when I had finally had enough, he refused any post surgery discussion or treatment plan. I was handed a bag of medication, a bill for $2200 and my dog - all without a single word from Dr. Tierce. I am not sure if my dog has damage to her knee due to the lack of instructions the tech was given. If she does, I guess I am on my own in finding her treatment. In hindsight, I would not have let him operate on the second leg. He seems knowledgeable, but he grossly over books himself. You can only spread yourself so thin. At some point, the best will become ineffective. Plus, you are only as good as the people around you and his staff is lacking. He has about three people that are long-term employees. Plus, I am not easily intimidated and find it very unprofessional when he behaves the way he has if you don't agree with him.



Can I add something regarding the comment below on his operating room? I find that disturbing. If I had known that, I would not have allowed him to do any surgery. Plus, he may be saying the importance is on clean air - but in reality he prescribes an excessive amount of Cipro - plus an additional antibiotic. He also likes to exceed the normal 7-10 day dose on antibiotics. That is one very powerful antibiotic, plus a second antibiotic for 14-21 days! I felt like it was excessive and now I understand why he does it. He doesn't worry about hospital based infections because he is medicating beyond the standards. The amount of Cipro was very upsetting to my dogs digestive system. This required additional medications to keep her from throwing up. Wishing I had made a different decision.

I thought it was important to take moment and let others who are searching know that Dr. Tierce is the finest. He operated on my Doberman's ears (yes, I know not all people want their dog's ears cropped). I was hesitant and did my homework regarding who the best vet choices were. Her ears came out perfect. They are perfectly symmetrical and an artist couldn't have crafted them better. And has seen her twice again because she likes to eat everything - especially if it's indigestible, apparently.



He also saw my Golden when he got bit by a copperhead- SCARY- if you've never seen a dog with snakebite because their face swells to the size of a basketball. I was pretty sure he was going to die and he didn't.



In fact, Dr. Tierce took care of it so quickly (in thirty minutes from me leaving the house) that there's barely even two little battle wounds on his nose to remind him that snakes are not his friends.



Animals love Dr. Tierce and his whole staff, he genuinely takes the time to honor each patient and their owners as well. My dogs adore him. Whatever they are suffering from, when they get to his office, they perk right up and act like they weren't just dying an hour ago.



So, if your animal is sick, needs surgery or a poisonous snake tries to take their face off, you know where to go. If I could give him 10 stars, I'd ask for 11. Added bonus- Starbucks opened two blocks over.

I've had two cats and two dogs operated on by Dr. Tierce. It is true his operating room does not look like TV operating rooms or is neat and orderly like some hospitals. But he does not have to worry about hospital based infections, either. He does use sterile technique and his operations are awesome to watch. I know, I observed several operations on people while my husband was in medical school and residency. Remember, it is the quality of the air, not what is on the floor. Do you really want to pay for a hospital operating room for your Fido? Most people could not afford it and might lose their pet. He is an awesome surgeon. My husband, M.D., said if you want the straight truth, Dr. Tierce will give it to you, unvarnished. I guess some people don't really want to know everything. Probably some pet owners don't want the whole straight truth. Dr. Tierce's operating technique is brilliant, he puts animals who have been injured beyond belief back together. When he put my TINY kitten's knee back together after she tore it completely apart, it was a miracle. Another cat of mine ate a piece of elastic about a yard long, and it ran completely through his intestines, gathering them up, and not passing with his stools. Dr. Tierce let me watch the surgery and he meticulously clipped the fiber that would not dissolve, a long procedure where the fiber had cut through the intestines. He was absolutely sterile. This precious kitty has done very well, he now weighs 17 pounds. And when you are the best, you can be gruff if you are pressed for time, or tired because you have been pressed into performing one more miracle on a dog hit by a car and needing immediate surgery. Yes, I saw dog brought in and taken straight into surgery. However, after sitting and holding my babies while they recovered, I saw only love and awesome caring for his patients, and I was there for hours a day for two six weeks recovery periods. As for the turnover in veterinarians, Dr. Tierce has let young vets, just starting out, without a place to practice if their own, work for him, and older vets who want to cut back but still practice. You should ask. Yeah, he is a little overcrowded, the waiting room is often full, but when an emergency comes in the door, he is there for your animal children. By the way, he attends veterinarian conferences to stay up to date on the latest. Wonderful!!
