As with any cosmetic procedure, it’s to make us feel better about ourselves. Many patients report great distress about their appearance in a variety of situations and seek a way to alleviate that feeling. Small breasted women choose to have the surgery to improve their confidence. Others wish to add volume to their breasts to give them a more youthful appearance after childbirth or aging. Whatever the reason, breast augmentation is a safe procedure to help people achieve the look and self confidence they’re dreaming of.

Ultrasound
Can change but it is usually a minor change and sometimes returns to normal many months later. Scarring is not an issue in our practice as Dr. Sachse uses a waveline incision technique along the lower edge of the areola that is generally invisible when healed. Breast encapsulation is also a risk of augmentation surgery. Whenever a breast implant (or implant of any type) is placed in the human body, a thin layer of scar tissue surrounds the implant, which is normal. But sometimes (rarely) the scar tissue thickens due to an immune response, which is still somewhat of a mystery to the medical community, and the breast becomes round and hard due to the thickened capsule of scar tissue. Treatment varies; if caught right away ultrasound and deep massage therapy may work. The capsule itself may have to removed as an additional surgical procedure, which oftentimes includes replacing the implant at additional cost to the patient.

Reconstructive Surgery
Complications are rare however surgeries involving breast implants, whether for cosmetic or reconstructive surgery, carry risks common to many types of surgery. These include adverse reactions to anesthesia, post-operative bleeding or fluid collection, surgical site infection or breakdown, breast pain or alterations in sensation, unfavorable scarring, interference with breast feeding, visible wrinkling, asymmetry and thinning of the breast tissue. Breast Lift
As with any surgery it is always best to start off being healthy, and to be considering the procedure for the right reasons; that is, your choice, not something someone else wants you to do it. Not widely known, most clothing is designed to specific proportions and if breasts are too small (or not present at all) garments don’t fit correctly. Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is the term for surgical procedures which improve the form (appearance) or function of the human nose. Included under the general term of rhinoplasty is “septoplasty” or “turbinectomy”, performed on the support structures of the interior of the nose to improve airflow. Altering the shape of the nose and the nostrils (“weir excision”) improve the appearance of the nose for a more pleasing appearance. Additionally, implants may be used to add height to the bridge of the nose.

Typical procedures in rejuvenation of the face are, lifting the wattles/throat and jowls with a lower face/neck lift; raising the brow to open the upper face and eye area; Blepharoplasty to remove and tighten lax, excess skin from the upper lids and bags and fat deposits from the lower; Otoplasty for the correction of disproportionately large ears; Rhinoplasty to smooth and refine the minor (or major) errors of nature or misfortunes of untimely physical contact, and chin and cheek implants for that longed-for and dreamt-about extreme makeover.

Abdominoplasty
We need to make special mention of abdomens; if the patient’s skin has lost youthful elasticity for reasons of age, pregnancy or massive weight loss this lack of skin elasticity might prevent the skin from tightening around the patient’s new shape. If this is the case, a tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty) might be required to achieve the final desired effect.

Anyone, including children with parental approval, who wishes to improve the appearance of their ears may be a candidate for otoplasty.
Body Contouring
The most commonly requested procedures at Broward Plastic Surgery are Facial Rejuvenation, Body Contouring (especially tummy tucks), Breast Augmentation and Rejuvenation, and, because of Dr. Sachse's expertise in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and reconstruction of the face, the care of skin cancers.
Laser Resurfacing
After the skin cancer has been removed and the wound has completely healed, the smallest possible scar will remain. Often, a wound that heals on its own leaves scars that are hardly noticeable. Scars flatten and improve over the first twelve months following surgery. If patients are not satisfied with the way their scars have healed, Dr. Sachse has the option of using a dermal filler to lift indented scars. If scars are raised or rough, chemical peels and laser-resurfacing techniques can be used. Patients who have skin flaps or skin grafts may need a “touch-up” procedure to improve their appearance.
Gynecomastia
Cosmetic surgery has seen a significant increase in male patients that Dr. Sachse attributes to very competitive work-place and social environments. It probably reflects an increased awareness of cosmetic surgery and a growth in decision-making by men in elective health care issues. In the past it was known that almost all decisions about health care were made by women. An old joke was that if a man needed a urologist he asked his wife who to go to and she would ask her gynecologist! Times have changed. Men now take increasing responsibility for their own choices in health care and one aspect of this is men's increasing interest in cosmetic procedures such as facelifts, abdominoplasty, liposuction and a tightening/lifting of the skin of the chest called gynecomastia.

In the intense competition of today's business world, there is often a perception, correct or not, that an older person is less up-to-date and efficient. In an effort to remain young looking, many men have turned to cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery in men uses many of the same procedures as in women. However, because of the composition of a man's body there are many technical differences. The facial hair and thicker skin generally means a greater blood supply than in a woman's skin. The result is a greater risk of bleeding but fairly fast healing. In general, men tend to be less happy emotionally with the results of cosmetic surgery than are women.

Skin cancers can sometimes be more pervasive under the skin than they look from the surface. Skin cancer can have “roots” along blood vessels, cartilage, nerves, or the skin. Mohs micrographic surgery has been precisely designed to methodically track and remove these cancerous “roots.” It is recognized as the skin cancer treatment with the highest noted cure rate.
