Pediatric Care
Dr. Steven Shu led a group of Chinese-American doctors from North America to Kampong Chhnang, Cambodia, from January 27th to Feburary 2nd, 2019 to provide free medical care for local residents. This medical mission team consisted of ten volunteers, eight of which were doctors, who specialized in a range of fields, including internal medicine, pediatrics, dentistry, ophthalmology, surgery, and anesthesiology, as well as two non-medical volunteers. The majority of the team were from the United States, with one pediatrician from Canada. Dr. Li Tang was the Cambodian domestic team coordinator, who provided a team consisting of 5-6 individuals to assist in translation, as well as providing professional and daily necessities. At the start of this service trip, the volunteers had to overcame many unexpected difficulties, including family emergencies, visa and passport issues, as well as many other obstacles.

Autologous fat transfer involves gently removing fat from body regions with localized fat deposits. Under local anesthesia, a small ultrasound probe is inserted to liquefy the fat cells. Once the fat has been dissolved, it is harvested through a gentle suction process. The harvested fat is then injected into the areas of depressions, irregularities, and asymmetries.
MRI
Saline implant is easy to tell when one ruptures unlike silicone implants. If a silicone implant ruptures, the only way to tell would be by getting an MRI because silicone slowly leaks out of the implant into the body.
Mammography
Screening for breast cancer using mammography and other imagine tests are required prior to surgery. Preoperative instructions include the discontinuation of certain drugs in order to decrease the possibilities of bleeding. Prophylactic antibiotics are routinely prescribed to prevent postoperative infection. Breast implants surgery does not generally interfere with the ability to breast feed.

Dr. Shu is an office proceduralist, specializing in office based medical and cosmetic procedures and surgeries. On top of his clinical work, Dr. Shu was an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota medical school from 2007 to 2012, teaching weekly office procedures to resident physicians.

Brow Lift
A temporal brow lift, also known as a lateral brow lift, is an effective cosmetic procedure designed to fix sagging, folds, and small wrinkles in the brow area, forehead, and corners of the eyes. Breast Lift
A breast lift with augmentation is a surgical procedure for those want more breast volume but also need a breast lift. This is a common procedure for women, because breast implants alone will not lift the breasts. A breast lift raises and reshapes breasts that have sagged from pregnancy, from significant weight changes, or from the natural process of aging. The augmentation portion of the procedure would be done with breast implants for those unsatisfied with their current breast size and would like more volume in addition to a lift.
Plastic Surgery
Additionally, we offer eyelid plastic surgery, technically known as blepharoplasty. Dr. Shu uses the newest tissue sparing techniques in blepharoplasty to prevent long-term orbital hollowness. For younger patients with puffy bags on their lower eyelids, Dr. Shu can use the scarless conjunctival approach in combination with laser skin resurfacing to achieve a natural result.
Thigh Lift
I am a 69 year old lady that recently had a “Thigh Lift” performed by Dr. Shu. I am highly pleased with the result. Although I am within about 10 pounds of what the weight chart says I should be for my age and height, I tend to carry extra weight in my upper arms and thigh area. I do jog 2 miles a day 5 days a week in an effort to stay reasonably fit and toned. Whereas this effort probably did help to tone my legs to some extent, still- the inner thigh area remained excessively flabby and unattractive. I can wear a skirt/dress and look quite nice- but to wear blue jeans ( or trousers of any kind) as just about every female in America does these days- I would automatically appear to be heavier than what I actually am. “So what- some of you might say if you read my letter- isn’t it about having fun and forgetting how one looks in a pair of blue jeans?” Well, as hard as I would try to adapt to that attitude, it did bother me. I would return to wearing my skirts and kind of “standing out” and not in a good way (is the way it felt to me) when out @ the mall or in most casual social situations. I previously have had several procedures performed on me by Dr. Shu. He performed a “Mini Face Lift” on me several years ago and the result is very good. Thank you, Dr. Shu! In the summer of 2012, Dr. Shu performed a “Vaser Scarless Breast Reduction” on me.The result is not only visually more appealing in the way I look in clothes (well, not jeans) but almost completely diminished constant pain from a permanent upper right shoulder soft tissue injury sustained in a car accident some years ago. People have commented how much better I look but cannot seem to put their finger on why it might be. Probably the fact that my facial expression is no longer grimaced in constant pain is a huge contributing factor, I would think. Thank you, Dr. Shu! Now it felt that I wanted to complete my new look by having a “Thigh Lift” and feeling comfortable in the way I look in jeans. I did not for a moment consider seeking out another surgeon. Lip Augmentation
The purpose of a lip augmentation through fat transfer is to create fuller, more attractive lips that may have become wrinkled or thin over the years. Lip augmentation is traditionally done using derma fillers, such as Restylane or Juvederm, but these typically last only 6 months. A long term method to rejuvenate lips is to use fat transfer techniques. Using a structural fat grafting technique, the surface area of the lip is increased and restored to look more full and youthful. Dermabrasion
I had a wonderful experience with the staff and work performed by Dr.Shu, I am African American and its been hard to find effective treatments for my Acne scars, i tried dermabrasion, derma pen, and to be honest i was skeptical about under going laser surgery and the risks involved with hyper pigmentation. Forehead Lift
Mini open browlift, a modified version of the pretrichial forehead lift, is typically recommended for patients with higher foreheads with a good hairline. The procedure involves making an irregular, wavy incision just millimeters behind the hairline (where the frontal hairline joins the forehead) and angling the incision so that very few hair follicles are damaged. Hair then grows through the incision and thus, helps hide the scar. The incision is carried down to the rim of the eye socket so that the eyebrow tissue can be elevated. A small portion of the tissue equal to the amount of lift desired is then removed, and the incision is closed.

The effectiveness of a cosmetic laser depends on the wavelength of the laser and its energy for the targeted tissue. The beam of light, with specified wavelength, targets the exact type of body tissue treated. For example, the laser targets the melanin in the hair follicle to achieve hair removal and stimulates the growth of collagen and removes the damaged cells to reduce the wrinkles and improve the acne scar. The laser also targets the hemoglobin molecule and cauterizes blood vessels to treat vascular lesions, such as rosacea, spider veins, and hemangiomas.

The mission’s “PCP (Primary Care Physician) team,” consisting of Dr. Xiong, Dr. Li, Dr. Yu, and Dr. Tang, saw almost a hundred patients, ranging from children to adults, with various diseases such as hypertension, asthma, diabetes, heart diseases, BPH, osteoarthritis, upper respiratory infections, vaginitis, skin lesions and infections, hydroceles, hernias, malnutrition, meningitis, cancer, and even some rare diseases not commonly seen in the United States. Dr. Yu performed an injection for a plantar fasciitis patient and removed a lesion (most likely “nevus subaceous”) from a scalp lesion patient. Besides treating patients, Dr. Li also kindly gifted free formula she brought from the United States to her pediatric patients with malnutrition.
