- Dr. Petraco graduated cum laude from Yale University in 1988, after which he received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College graduating with academic honors. His post-graduate training included an internship at NYU Medical Center and an orthopedic surgery residency at The Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute, where he was chosen to serve as an executive chief resident in his final year. Dr. Petraco also completed a research fellowship in biomaterials and biomechanics at The Hospital for Joint Diseases. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.Dr. Petraco specializes in joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee. He prides himself on offering the latest advanced techniques in joint replacement surgery including mini-incision hip and knee replacement. As director of the Department of Orthopedics at St. Charles Hospital, Dr. Petraco was instrumental in bringing MAKOplasty robotic partial knee resurfacing to the hospital. This minimally invasive approach, combined with a patient specific surgical plan allows more accurate implant placement resulting in a more natural feeling knee compared with total knee replacement. Patients are typically discharged home from the hospital the same day of surgery.

Provided by Doctor.comi had bi lateral knee replacement done six weeks apart in the spring of 2016. Dr Petraco and his staff provided me with the best of care both pre op and post op.My procedure and rehab were done at St. Charles where the care was also outstanding.

Provided by Doctor.comI was unable to walk normally due to extreme pain in my hip. I went to another doctor who told me I had hip dysplasia and needed a new hip, but his attitude left a lot to be desired. My husband had had his knee replaced by Dr. Petraco and had a great experience, so I went to him. Dr. Petraco told me the same thing but much more nicely, so I decided to go with him, and am I glad I did. After surgery I can walk normally and have resumed all the activities I couldn't do before. Wonderful doctor!
