Labor and Delivery
A Mommy Makeover refers to the combination of these procedures, as they are performed in a single surgery rather than separately. Patients who are candidates for a Mommy Makeover should be done having children, and it should be at least six months since the last childbirth. During your consultation, you and Dr. Self will go over your goals for surgery, and together you will decide on the combination of procedures that will be best for you. The recovery time for a Mommy Makeover is a bit longer than individual surgeries and depends on the patient, as different bodies heal at different rates. You can expect to take several weeks of downtime to rest and recuperate from surgery before you resume full daily activities that put stress or strain on the body. It can take months to see the final results, but they are well worth it. During that time, you will have regular office visits with Dr. Self to ensure that healing is going smoothly.

He graduated from the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine and completed training in general surgery as well as plastic surgery at the Mayo Graduate School Of Medicine in Minnesota. Plastic Surgeons

Liposuction
Fat grafting is a procedure that involves removing a small amount of fat from one area of the body and injecting it into another area of the body in order to provide more volume, correct an indentation, or restore proportionality. Fat injections can be used to plump areas of the breast, buttocks, or hips. If a patient has undergone liposuction that has left any divets in the incision site, fat injections can be used to smooth over those areas.
Breast Augmentation
Implant size and shape: Breast implants come in many sizes and are filled with saline or silicone gel. Silicone is available for all women over 22 years old. All implants are round in shape, but can have different profiles. There are high, moderate, and low profile implants. These reflect how much projection the implant creates. Dr. Self uses only smooth implants for breast augmentation.
Breast Reduction
A Reduction Mammaplasty (Breast Reduction) procedure involves the removal of excess fatty tissue, glandular tissue, and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion to the body, and to alleviate discomfort associated with overly large breasts.
Breast Lift
The breast lift (mastopexy) can help eliminate the effects of pregnancy, gravity, and weight gain, which tend to cause stretching of breast tissue. Regular breasts, and even augmented breasts, can start to droop or sag. When breasts start to lose their shape and volume, nipples can change position or become enlarged, and stretch marks can form. Breast sagging is referred to as ptosis. The degree of ptosis varies based on the nipple’s location on the breast. A mastopexy reshapes the underlying breast tissue by pulling it upward to create a more youthful appearance.
Breast Reconstruction
Dr. Self has over 30 years of experience in breast reconstruction surgery. He trained with some of the founding fathers of breast reconstruction at the Mayo Clinic and has vast experience of his own. He has the ability to provide his patients with multiple breast reconstruction options to achieve the most natural result possible. He takes time to explain these options to the patient and her family, in order to achieve the best outcome after a mastectomy or lumpectomy surgery for breast cancer. These can be challenging surgeries, and you want someone with vast experience to walk you through your post-operative options. Dr. Self has that experience.

Thigh Lift
A panniculectomy is another surgical procedure, one that involves the removal of excess fat and skin from the abdominal region known as the pannus. It is different from an abdominoplasty, which is a procedure that tightens the muscles of the lower abdomen as well as removal of excess skin. A brachioplasty, or arm lift, is an excellent option for removing hanging skin from the upper arms. Similarly, a thigh lift removes fatty tissue and bulky, hanging skin from the inner and outer thighs and around the knee area. Many of our weight loss surgery patients opt to include a buttock lift in addition to a thigh lift, which is effective in improving the contour of the buttocks, groin, and thighs.
Face Lift
For many people, their face is their most important asset, and losing the youthful appearance they’ve enjoyed for so long is distressing. A facelift is a surgical procedure that reduces visible signs of aging on the face by lifting and tightening the skin and removing excess tissue that can cause a patient to appear older.
Blepharoplasty
Just like the skin stretches as and loses elasticity as people age, the eyelids can stretch. A blepharoplasty is a procedure that removes excess skin above the eye and below if needed. An incision is made in the crease of your upper eyelid, or on the lash line of your lower eyelid.
Abdominoplasty
An abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a surgical procedure that removes excess abdominal skin and tightens the abdominal wall where the muscles have separated. Pregnancy and weight gain can cause the abdominal muscles to stretch apart and separate (diastasis). Laxity or loose skin on the abdomen as a result of pregnancy or weight gain/loss can be removed with this surgical procedure.
Breast Surgery
In 2005, Dr. Self opened his private practice for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Salt Lake City after practicing in Alabama for over 10 years. His specialties include breast surgery, body contouring, tummy tucks, liposuction, surgery after massive weight loss, facial aesthetic surgery, eyelids, and minimally invasive facial surgery.
Scar Revision
Lasers have come a long way through the years and today there are a multitude of possibilities with laser treatments, including stretch mark removal, skin resurfacing, acne treatments, scar revision, and many other dermatological uses. These treatments are usually quick and inexpensive compared to surgical procedures. Lasers are a safe and practical way to get the results you want for most minor skin issues.
Body Contouring
Body contouring refers to an array of procedures that are done to provide proportionality and shapeliness to the body. Areas include the arms, chest, abdomen, hips, flanks, thighs and legs. No area of the body is immune to the aging process and long term effects of gravity, and skin elasticity decreases with time. Likewise, fatty tissue tends to deposit over time in the flanks, abdomen, thighs and upper arms. All of these factors contribute to changes that are associated with advancing age.
Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia is the condition of excess breast tissue in mlales. Gynecomastia can be the result of hormonal fluctuations, heredity, certain prescription drugs, or anabolic steroid use. Breasts may sag and nipples/areola may be enlarged due to stretched skin.
Bariatric Surgery
The same changes are also seen, to a much greater degree, in patients (both young and old) who have experienced significant weight loss through diet and exercise or bariatric surgery. Body contouring procedures focus on reversing the effects of the aging process and/or extreme weight loss with respect to all areas of the body. Body lifting procedures, such as the thigh lift, abdominoplasty, arm lift, and buttocks lift improve body lines and overall general appearance. These procedures are generally performed to remove redundant skin. Liposuction (traditional or ultrasonic) can also be used in these areas and other areas of the body, i.e. the back, hips, etc.
