The William B. Travis Academy/Vanguard for the Academically Talented and Gifted is an educational institution that provides a range of educational and extracurricular programs for students in grades four through eight. It enrolls more than 390 students and manages a staff of over 25 teachers. As a magnet school for talented and gifted students, the academy offers a range of after-school programs. Its students participate in several sports activities and math and science competitions. The William B. Travis Academy/Vanguard for the Academically Talented and Gifted maintains a parent-teacher association that conducts coffee meetings and volunteering events and involves guardians in school activities. It has received the School of Excellence award by the Magnet Schools of America, as well as various awards and recognitions for band, orchestra and French competitions. The academy is a part of the Dallas Independent School District, which governs elementary, middle and high schools.
