Located in Dallas, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission is a state department that offers system planning, evaluation, disaster assistance and long-term care services. The department has a staff of more than 9,000 employees. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission also provides a health program for low-income women that includes gynecological examinations and health screening services. In addition, the department administers the Texas Medicaid Program, which includes medical care services for low-income individuals and families. It offers individual protection, counseling and support services related to fraud and sexual abuse. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission additionally provides job training, cultural orientation and financial assistance services to refugees.
