- Dr. Javier Alonso is a board-certified dermatologist renowned both locally and internationally for his extensive knowledge and training in the field. A native of Spain, he pursued his initial medical studies in Europe and expanded his expertise via study here in the United States. His extensive dermatology training with global leaders in the field has made him a true leader in the practice of dermatology. Dr. Alonso’s medical studies began at the University of Salamanca in Spain, and he obtained his medical degree from Navarra Medical School. He moved to Madrid in 1990 where he practiced dermatology for 10 years. He then studied at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, specializing in the immunopathology of the skin. With more than 20 years of clinical experience, Dr. Alonso is a recognized voice on complex dermatological topics, such as immunobullous diseases, connective tissue disorders, and cutaneous lymphomas. In 2006, Dr. Alonso and his family moved to Miami, FL, to become a member of the faculty at the University of Miami Medical School – Department of Dermatology. He has also been active in teaching dermatology residents at the Miami VA Hospital, a position which he continues today. He joined International Dermatology Research in 2011 as a dermatologist and primary investigator for their clinical trials program. Dr. Alonso’s latest endeavor has brought him on staff at both Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute with Dr. Jill Waibel, as well as joining Integrated Dermatology of Coral Gables as a partner in 2016. Dr. Alonso’s primary passion has been and continues to be – providing excellent patient care. He brings a wealth of experience as well as a genuine passion for medical excellence to his patients.

Provided by Doctor.comWe came to Dr. Alonso with a nasty, menacing, ugly wound on my left leg that nobody, out of several physicians was able to diagnose or even understand. The wound was getting worse and deeper fast and we were already very afraid of a terrible outcome.
Dr. Alonso was the only physician capable of diagnose with amazing precision this very rare condition. His professionalism, knowledge and class is really on another level and he was no match for this extremely difficult disease. The last dermatologist physician we saw before him, could not even guess what was going on while looking at the wound with a terrified face! We were very lucky to find our "saving angel". Dr. Javier Alonso is a scientist who treated the complexity of the situation with utmost professionalism, humanity, and knowledge and i will be forever grateful to Dr. Alonso for saving my leg while showing so much knowledge and grace!
