CHAR Steakhouse

Have always had an excellent meal whenever we have been to Char's. Atmosphere is okay and wait staff is always accommodating. We never hesitate going back because we enjoy the food.

Very over priced for the dining experience you have. Paper napkins and flatware that was just a step above plastic. Steaks were adequate but sides appeared to be left over from previous days, certainly not fresh. Way too much money for this type of quality.

Our son & his girlfriend were home from college for a visit. We had seen Char, but had never been, so we went on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was SEVERELY understaffed; our waiter literally tossed our food at us and didn't linger to see if we needed or wanted anything, including drink refills, condiments, etc. I wish I could say the food made up for it, but the server and the food were on equal playing ground. We all got steaks, but none of us could eat our meal in its entirety because of the gristle and fat in the steak. This was a very disappointing experience and we will know not to go there again. I COMPLETELY disagree with the positive ratings that are listed in YP.

As far as Cookeville goes, there isn't a great deal of high standard dining experiences. Char has, in my opinion, the best steaks in town. The price does reflect the quality so I would suggest this for a special occasion.

They also have nightly drink specials, happy hours, and live music many nights of the week which draws an exciting nightlife.

It's central location on the square is simply icing on the cake.
