The SPCA? Really?

Well, I thought the place was very clean and the animals were extremely well cared for but I did not really like the attitudes that most of the people had. It was as if they were doing us a favore by simply speaking to us. Perhaps they were having a bad day? Nope not so, we had been there three seperate times when we lived in Richaland County and each time it was the same thing. Bad attitudes by the folks at the front desk, it actually made you not want to visit the animals or make a selection. The folks in the back were much nicer, perhaps they should change jobs? The people in the front should perhaps spend more time with the animals and learn some manners from them!

Also I thought the job of the SPCA was to care for all animals not just those found in their county. When we moved to Lexington, I had a cat dropped off on my new farm and I took it to the...of course, SPCA, they told me that I was not allowed to leave the animal there. That they could only accept animals from people who lived in Richland County. So what if there was no shelter in the area I lived in did I just turn the animal loose on the streets? Apparently so as far as this SPCA was concerned. The Lexington County shelter does not Spay or Neuter and the Shop Road SPCA just recently opened its doors to allow folks outside of Richland County to get their animals altered there but only on special days and only if they meet special requirements. So how is this a REAL SPCA when the caring owners try to do the right thing and the one organization that is suppose to be there to help doesn't? Yep, I say again SPCA? REALLY?

ADOPT BUT NEVER DROP ANY PET OFF THERE PLEASE!!!

DO NOT TAKE ANIMALS HERE EVER.‎ - ‎ - 2010-06-10
KILLED MY DOG. DENIED HE WAS THERE FOR 3 DAYS. Finally admitted they killed him as soon as he arrived. Claimed he has a broken back. BS!!! It was a senior dog with arthritis causing a curve in spine. AND they had my phone number I called SUN, MON, TUES, WED......they denied he was there. I could have taken him to MY vet. He was not their property!!!! HE WAS MY BEST FRIEND and LOVED DEARLY!! The girl who took him there thought she was doing me a favor so I could easily find him. That was not the case. They ignored my messages leaving information on Sunday and denied he was there for 3 more days. This should be CRIME. Have you ever seen video of what they do to animals???
Watch this before you ever take an animal there.

Anyone who can watch that without wanting the throw up is not human, let alone HUMANE!!
Have you ever seen what an entire industrial dump truck full of dead cats and dogs looks like? I have and it was at THAT SPCA when I had volunteered there. Also freezers full of dead cats.
I'm not some PETA enviro whack job either. I am a concerned citizen for living, feeling, creators who have no voice for themselves.
DO NOT have any animal piced up by animal control or the police or drop an animal at the SPCA. It is a hell on earth and a slaughter house.
May they answer to their god for murdering my dog in cold blood as soon he arrived and then LIED over and over.
I WILL EXPOSE YOU SPCA!!!!!! My best friend's death will NOT be in vain. People need to understand exactly what you are and it is any BUT humane.

Took my three year old Jack Russell for a neutering. The clerk at check in wasn't pleasant, but she had a monumental job to do with a crowd waiting in line. Very efficient, but no smiles, but that's ok when you consider her work load. As I was one of the first in line, I was able to pick up my buddy early, 12:00. They did a great job and zero problems. They took good care of my friend and I would recommend them to anyone. Everyone was friendly on pick up. Thanks

Stay very far away from here if you want your dog to live. The vet doesn't know what he is doing and won't come back (oh yea, he leaves at lunch for the day) to fix a staple that he screwed up twice. The people there are extremely rude and told me I was SOL. Its funny how they have "humane" in the name but they are very far from it. I will NEVER take my animals back to this place. Ill pay the premium to get my future pets fixed. These people don't care about you or your animal. Who knows what goes on in the back when you aren't looking....probably worse. I will be doing whatever it takes to have this place shut down until a PROFESSIONAL can come in and take over.

The Humane Society is the same address as Columbia Animal Services but the Humane Society is the first building on the left as soon as you enter the parking lot. I'm not sure if there was some confusion about that based on all of the negative reviews. I got my cat neutered here today and he did wonderfully and is back home resting safe and sound. All of the staff members were courteous, and treated me with respect. With the extra pain medication, it came to $31 to have my cat fixed.

I understand that they are inexpensive, but they are some of the rudest people I've ever encountered. I saved the dogs from getting ran over and they treated me like I was trash. Simply trying to do right by the dogs!

summer heat

I called on saturday. Dog died from heat next door. Dog had no water or shelter. Animal control said they would come out on Monday. What?! The corpse is still there on 100 degree or more heat.

Think before you speak

All of these reviews are pertaining to the City of Columbia Animal Services. The Humane Society IS NOT AFFILIATED with the shelter. The Humane Society is just a spay neuter clinic. They just happen to be located in the same parking lot. Lets do some research and get some facts folks before we assume things. Also all cats are cleaned and treated for ear mites prior to surgery. Any cat with ear mites would not have gotten them from the Humane Society, this is something that is gotten from being an outdoor cat. A monthly flea prevention helps this problem. Also, sometimes dis-solvable sutures don't dissolve depending on the animal. Any stitch remaining they are happy to remove at no extra cost. If you're having issues with Animal Control than try bashing them under their listing. If you're having any issues with the Humane Society feel free to call them and state your concerns.

Sick Kitten

I took my kitten there to have her spayed. When I got her back she started acting funny afew days after her surgery. She was shaking her head, her little nose started bleedind and her stomach didn't look right.I took her to her vet and she had gotten ear mites so bad that it had started her nose bleeding and her stomach was from where they had stitched her and one of the stitches had come loose and was stuck in her skin. All in all it cost me 300.00 to save my kitten. Please think twice before you take your furbaby their if you really care about it.
