Housing Discrimination

Columbia Property Management LLC has discriminated against me because of my disability under the fair housing
act Section 818 . I went into the office April 11, 2018 to complain about the abuse I was receiving from my neighbor who is also a tenant of Columbia Property Management. I just had a total left hip replaced March 13, 2018. They filed a false police report on me which I had to get corrected. Retaliation against my disability for complaining about my neighbor!! I have since been subjected by their attorney with intimidation and harassment against my legal rights as a disabled person under the Fair Housing Act of 1988.

I have submitted complaints against Columbia Property Management LLC with:

The South Carolina Real Estate Commission
The Better Business Bureau
The South Carolina Consumer Affairs
The South Carolina Human Affairs Commission (Fair Housing)

I am writing this letter because we have an extreme situation in the Rosewood Area that needs to come to the public's attention! For almost 8 years now a tenant has been terrorizing the neighborhood dogs. He has been yelling at the neighbors dogs when they bark going as far as hitting the fences with trash cans. When the property owners come out he curses them out and threatens to kill their dogs. There have been police reports filed starting in February 10, 2012, May 8, 2017 and occurring all the way up to the present day. This animal abuser has been accused of throwing bleach on one dog in the neighborhood to being suspected of poisoning another dog in the area. The property has been managed by Columbia Property Management LLC doing the whole duration that this has occurred.
Columbia Property Management has gotten numerous emails and phone calls from the citizens in the area and has refused to do anything about it including doing their own investigation to see if these allegations are true about one of her tenants!
This person's lease renewal date is August 31, 2018. I have taken a petition around and have gotten 110 signatures to stop the lease renewal.
I do not approve of the tenant living in the Rosewood area terrorizing peoples pets under the management of Columbia Property Management LLC!! We as animal lovers insist that Columbia Property Management does not renew his lease when it comes up for renewal August 31, 2018!

Overall, a very unprofessional company. I am giving it two stars because everyone I talked to at the company was nice, but if you ever need anything from them you will have to stay on top of them to get it done. If you have a simple request, there is usually only one person in the entire office who can help you, and they will usually not be there when you call the first time. Very disorganized, and there does not seem to be much communication between staff.

They are pretty slow on maintenance; there were things we noted as broken when we moved in, and they never sent anyone to fix them. (They did call several months into our lease to ask if anything was still broken, and still never sent anyone). My air conditioner went out a couple weeks after I moved in, and they sent someone out twice just to tell me that it was broken and needed to be replaced, and then it took several days to actually replace it. I understand that it might take a day or so to get the unit, but I was unable to stay in my house for a week and my rent was not prorated (I did contact the owner to ask about this; instead of answering me she told me that I had a balance due on my account and referred me to someone else. I did not, in fact, have a balance due-- so obviously I got the run around there).

The other problem is the security deposit. You will have to put down a security deposit equal to a month's rent, and if you leave your house in good condition you will be lucky to get half of it back. They charge ridiculous amounts for small things. For example, we were charged $15 to replace the air filter.

I chose to rent from this company despite reading bad reviews because I loved the house and was running out of time. However, I will definitely not be renting from them in the future.

Terrible maintenance service. I moved in three weeks ago and turned in the inspection form about the same time, but still waiting for them to send someone. They are quite a few things they really need to get repaired, but they obviously do not care. They are nice over the phone, but they keep you waiting forever to send a maintenance person. They had not even cleaned the carpets, but they claimed they did. I called the carpet cleaning company and found out the property management company had lied to me. Even though I hate moving like many people, If I could terminate my lease I would do it right away and move somewhere else.

Having never rented a property and used the services of a property manager, my wife and I went with Rebecca and Columbia Property Management, LLC. Over the course of almost four years, Rebecca and her staff checked on the property on only three occasions (all of which were requested for by us), routinely overcharged for simple services (from turning a screw to replacing a light bulb), and billed for nearly $5000 in repairs for a job that was estimated at $2000. I HIGHLY recommend that you look elsewhere, if you are considering using Rebecca and her staff (especially if you will be out of town and incapable of checking in on the property). I have used Mike Taylor Properties for the past two years and can highly recommend them for those in Northeast Columbia.

RUN! I currently live in the Y...

RUN! I currently live in the Yorktown Apts off of Garners Ferry Rd and I'm moving asap! I have been here since Dec. 23, 2009. The ONLY reason I stayed for so long is because I was sick and couldn't afford to move. Where to begin...well, they gave me a roach infested refrig and said it was new, but the bars inside kept falling on the floor everytime you open the door. So now I have roaches and they wont spray so the cost is on me. Then, the apt next to me had fleas and they traveled over here and I am currently fighting with that. #2 I have had a hole in my ceiling for a year and a half which is directly under my dining room table. My husband was hospitalied for 3 days due to the hole. (mold and lots ot it) One day after using the bathroom upstairs, the toilet over flowed and leaked downstairs onto my dining room table where my two kids were about to eat! Lucky they didn't listen to me that day when I told them to go eat. My table was ruined and my chairs too, but do you think Rebecca cared..no. They cut a hole there and never patched it back til now. The repair guy told me its because of my weight and pressure to the tub that it leaks. Even the repair man was nervous about touching the wood bcause it molded so bad. Stuff just started falling on its own! I was scared to even take a shower for the first 2 months and my husband is only 230lbs! #3 It took almost a month to get my bathroom downstairs fixed. #4 I came home one day and the repair man was sitting at me table drinking a glass of water while using my glass and water. FREAKY!! When I said something, Rebecca said that the repair men have a right to come in because they have a key. I definately don't want ANYONE in my home when I am not home. #5 I was in the hospital for nearly 6 weeks and when I returned home, there were many pieces of mail they sent to me concerning the trash in my yard. (keep in mind I couldnt walk and was completely paralyzed). There were some kids who kept knocking over everyones trash cans. # 6 THERE WERE 15 BREAK-INS OR CAR THEFTS since I have been here. Last night was one of them. (im in apt a and it happened to apt d). # 7 As I am moving my items out of my apt, I came home to the guy who shows the apts, in my home showing a couple my apt without my consent. They called me about it and there were a lot of back and forth missed calls but I told them they can come but only when I am home.

So these are the 7 reasons why I wouldn't recommend these apartments or the company. Rebecca is nice, but selfish minded and inconsiderate. They take a long time to fix anything and many of my friends that lived here have moved on due to the same if not more of the issues. I also threaten them by calling the BBB and DHEC.
