The August To-Do List

YP Editors

There's still one month of summer left. Before those lazy, hazy days come to an end, use our get-things-done list to make the most of this fleeting season in the sun.

Time to go back to school and more August To-Dos.
  1. Start Your Back-to-School Shopping Early: Don't wait until minutes before the semester starts to get the kids ready for the new school year. You can avoid serious mall time—and probably a few meltdowns, depending on the age of your children—by mapping out the best local shops to stock up on school supplies, backpacks, sports equipment and back-to-school clothing. Happy shopping!
  2. Plan a Labor Day Getaway: There's still time to find a top-rated hotel near the beach, a scenic lake or your favorite attraction, and make fun family memories that will keep you warm this winter. Don't forget to book tickets for theme parks, museums or concerts in advance. After all, you're probably not the only family who had one last summer escape in mind.
  3. Give Your Garage a Makeover: August is the perfect time to tidy your garage before you put away the patio furniture, barbecue and bikes for the season. Schedule an electrician to fix faulty lighting, upgrading your shelving and storage areas and book a power wash to get rid of dust and grime. Your car will thank you.
  4. Start…and Finish…At Least One DIY Project: Don’t let another summer pass without making jam from summer fruits, prepping a winter garden, or scrapbooking mementos from your summer vacation. The secret to success is actually having what you need on hand to complete your project—from mason jars, gardening tools, and crafting supplies to basics like scissors, labels, and tape. Now you've got no excuses….
  5. Schedule Annual Checkups: Before fall football or soccer league starts, make your kids appointments for their annual physical with a top-rated local pediatrician. While you're at it, there's no time like the present to schedule a checkup with a trusted GP for you and your spouse. Here's to the good health of you and your family!
