Dental Examination
Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, charting, periodontal probing, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. We will also take x-rays, which include the panoramic x-ray for proper diagnosis of the anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth, as well as the bite-wing x-ray series for proper diagnosis of proximal decay of posterior teeth.

Resin Composite
Cosmetic fillings – Alternative, natural-looking materials to conventional silver-colored fillings made from porcelain and composite resins, which are colored to match natural tooth enamel.
Veneers
Veneers – Special thin laminates used to cover stains, correct discolored, worn-down, cracked, and chipped teeth, and close unsightly gaps between teeth.
Crowns
We perform endodontic therapy by drilling through the crown of the tooth, and cleaning out any damaged pulp. We then fill the gap and seal the tooth with a natural-looking porcelain crown.
Bridges
Tiny cracks and imperfections on a tooth can be fixed using air abrasion. Although air abrasion is not suitable for work on crowns and bridges, it is often used for bonding procedures, and on tooth restorations involving composite, or tooth-colored fillings.

Root Canal Treatment
Anesthetics – Anesthetics can either be topically applied, injected, or swallowed. Dentists often apply topical anesthetics with a cotton swab to an area of the mouth where a procedure such as a restoration will be performed. This numbs the affected area. Topical anesthetics are used in many dental procedures such as tooth restoration. Topical anesthetics also are used to prepare an area for injection of an anesthetic. Novocain and Lidocaine are the most common kind of injectable anesthetics. Such medications block the nerves from transmitting signals and are used for more major types of procedures, such as fillings and root canals.

Deep Cleaning
You should have a standard cleaning at least twice a year. A periodontal treatment includes an Adult Prophy (basic cleaning). If it has been over a year since your last cleaning, possible treatment will include either Periodontal Scaling (deeper) or Root Planning and Scaling (requires anesthetic).

Dentures
Specialty dentures – Lightweight dentures that mimic the look and feel of natural teeth. Most dentures are made from a combination of metals and synthetic material such as acrylic resin, and can be either partial or complete sets.
Overdentures
Partial dentures, also sometimes called "overdentures," are designed to fit over a small section of implants or natural teeth. Partial dentures are characteristic by their pinkish gum-like plastic bases, on to which replacement teeth are attached. Small clasps are used to attach the denture to existing teeth. Some clasps, which can be more expensive, are made of natural-looking material that is hard-to-detect. In some cases, a crown will be installed on an existing healthy tooth to facilitate a better hold for the clasp.

Dental Implants
Not everyone is a candidate for a dental implant. For a successful implant to take hold, a candidate must have proper bone density and have a strong immune system.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Some dental procedures, such as tooth extractions and oral surgery, may call for our office to prescribe medications before or after a procedure. These medications are used to prevent or fight an infection, or to relieve any post-operative discomfort and pain.
Tooth Extractions
Analgesics – These are also called pain relievers and include common non-narcotic medications such as ibuprofen and aspirin. Analgesics are usually used for mild cases of discomfort, and are typically prescribed following such procedures as a root canal or tooth extraction.

Dr. Elizabeth Waggener graduated from the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences with her Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1995. She operated as a sole practitioner in Somerville, Tennessee from 1995 until 2008. In 2008, Dr. Waggener sold her private practice and relocated to Brentwood, Tennessee with her husband and three daughters. She joined the practice of Maryland Farms Family Dentistry in August 2008. Dr. Waggener has received additional training in the Invisalign Orthodontic Procedure. She feels very blessed to be a part of the Maryland Farms Family Dentistry "family."

Dr Burton is a member of the American Dental Association, Tennessee Dental Association, Tennessee Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and a Board Member for the Nashville Dental Society. Dr. Burton and his wife, Lauren, have 4 children and are actively involved in the Brentwood community and their church. Dr. Burton serves on several different boards for local non-profit organizations. When asked what he likes most about dentistry, the answer is "the ability to help and serve others." That not only includes helping people through his office, but also through work on international mission trips, and through volunteering at the Interfaith Dental Clinic providing services for the uninsured, low-income working people of the Nashville area.
