High frequency sound waves enhance tissue repair on a cellular level. Energy produced by sound waves stimulate cell membranes increasing blood flow, reducing inflammation, decreasing pain, stiffness and spasms, making it a viable therapy for numerous applications. It is used to treat inflammation and injury of muscles, ligament and joints and softens adhesive scarring.
MRI
Your doctor may decide to prescribe a brain scan if you complain more than a couple times about such symptoms. Fine to do but 99+% of the time, nothing will show up because you typically cannot see chronic neuroinflammation on an MRI or CAT scan. Therefore, a doctor that is well versed in neurology, brain health, and/or neuroinflammation will need to do a consultative interview as well as an examination to look at different aspects of brain function to determine neuroinflammation and the impact it is having on your brain.
Chemotherapy
Some secondary side effects include significant fatigue, muscle weakness, muscle tightness, joint stiffness, and pain. Muscle tightness, joint stiffness and scar tissue after surgery can impact your ability to breathe correctly which in turn decreases the oxygen going into your tissues including your brain. This alone can be one cause of fatigue. At times there is scar tissue that forms at sites where radiation was performed. This can cause inability to move your limbs and perform your daily activities. With pelvic and abdominal surgery as well as chemotherapy and radiation, the abdominal and pelvic floor can become dysfunctional creating disabling incontinence, urgency and pain.

Surgical procedures often result in down time, while acupuncture results in ‘wind down time”. One of the things that can set the stage for neuroinflammation is prior traumatic brain injuries which could be in the form of concussions, even mild concussions, or whiplash injuries that had have resulted in a concussion. Additionally, there can be other drivers of neuroinflammation such as gastrointestinal dysfunction or inflammation, infections, dietary triggers, environment toxicities or even neuro autoimmunity. Intestinal permeability (commonly heard of as ‘leaky gut’), is associated with several chronic diseases. When we have a damaged or inflamed lining of the intestines, the barrier between the gut and bloodstream is jeopardized and the barriers can be breached. If allowed to continue, harmful bacteria, foodstuff and toxins that your body normally would not allow through can leak into the underlying tissues and bloodstream and cause further inflammation and immune activation along with digestive disturbances and autoimmune conditions.

Similar with all chronic inflammatory diseases, the cause is not one but many, pointing to immune dysregulation, retrograde menstruation, inflammation, and toxicity. Retrograde menstruation refers to the back flow of menstrual fluid during a woman’s period through her fallopian tubes into her abdomen. This tissue then takes residence here causing scaring and inflammation. The immune system plays a role, and it is expected that a robust immune system will remove these cells before they adhere to the pelvic organs and scar down. A study at Vanderbilt University found that environmental toxins such as dioxin (PBC’s) play a role in the cause and certainly worsen the symptoms of endometriosis. These toxins cause hormonal havoc and inflame endometrial lesions. Xenoestrogens are substances that mimic our own estrogen and are found in soft plastics, conventional cosmetics and body care products. Since excess estrogen is inflammatory, these toxins put more gas on the endometriosis fire.
