Dental Examination

X-rays
Panoramic X-rays provide a crisp, two-dimensional view of the entire mouth and clearly show the teeth, jaw, sinuses and other facial structures. Your doctor may use these images for planning extractions and dental implant placement.
Oral Cancer Screening
First, an oral cancer screening will be conducted after which he will check for missing teeth, teeth that are loose, and examine any teeth that are broken-down. Next, the depth of the pockets under your gum line will be gently probed to assess the level of gum disease present. Gum tissue surrounding your teeth will also be examined to note any gum recession or other problems.

Teeth Cleaning
Our hygienists provide thorough yet gentle cleanings using ultrasonic scalers. Ultrasonic scalers use high-frequency vibrations to break up and remove the accumulated bacterial deposits on your teeth. They clean deeper and faster than traditional hand scaling instruments and can be adjusted for patient comfort. After cleaning is done, our hygienists will, as needed, gently smooth out the tooth surfaces under the gum line. Smooth surfaces make it difficult for future bacteria to attach and multiply.
Fluoride Treatment
For final cleaning and polishing, we use a dental jet-spray device called a Prophy-Jet. The Prophy-Jet shoots a high-pressure sodium bicarbonate stream to remove tooth stains from coffee, smoking, wine and other hard-to-clean materials that cannot be removed with other instruments. We then conclude your cleaning with a liquid fluoride treatment as a protective measure against future bacterial attack and food acids that can cause decay.

Veneers
“My mouth was in very poor condition when I came to Dr. Rubino’s office. My remaining teeth had all had root canals, crowns or veneers. They were discolored and painful. And I continued to have gum disease despite my efforts to correct it.
Crowns
A procedure that lengthens the crown of the tooth to expose more surface at the base of the tooth by removing excess gum tissue, is called a crown lengthening procedure.
Bridges
When a tooth is lost, bone loss and gum shrinkage occur in the space where the tooth used to be. This causes the gum line, just in that area, to sink and form an unsightly “valley.” If the missing tooth were replaced by a bridge, this could create a gap under the bridge. Your doctor can graft gum tissue under the dental bridge and build your gum line back to its normal height and thickness, making the bridge much more cosmetic in appearance.

Periodontal Surgery

Deep Cleaning
After your deep cleaning, about three weeks later, your gums will be re-examined. This examination will determine if healing has progressed adequately or if further actions are needed to achieve the desired result. Your results and recommendations will be thoroughly explained so you are completely informed and will also take the time to answer any of your questions.

Oral Surgery
Dr. Ryan Rubino distinguished himself greatly during his years in training. He is a published author and has shown excellent clinical skills by being awarded numerous awards, including a scholarship from BioHorizons to attend the world renown course on Minimally Invasive Soft Tissue procedures taught by Dr. Pat Allen. He has also presented research at numerous conferences, including the International Academy of Dental Research (IADR), a world renown dental research symposium. His Masters of Science research thesis titled: “Postoperative bleeding associated with antiplatelet and anticoagulant drugs: A Retrospective Study” will be published in the peer reviewed journal “Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, and Oral Radiology.”
Pre-prosthetic Surgery
Dr. Ryan Rubino is a trained specialist in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry. He is the older of Dr. Tom Rubino’s two sons. Dr. Ryan Rubino obtained his dental degree and specialty certificate from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. He is trained in minimally invasive soft tissue grafting, treatment of periodontal disease, minimally invasive LANAP dental laser therapy, full spectrum of dental implant treatments, all-on-4, teeth in a day, extractions, bone grafting and pre-prosthetic surgery.
Gum Surgery
Cosmetic gum surgery is a gum recontouring and reshaping procedure to improve the the look of a gummy smile. A gummy smile occurs when too much gum tissue covers the root of the teeth, making them appear short, and fat.
Tooth Extractions
A traditional tooth extraction involves moving the tooth back and forth and rotating it in the socket to dislodge it from the supporting ligament and bone before it is pulled. Extractions performed in this manner damage the surrounding gum and bone tissue, accelerate bone loss around the tooth and cause swelling. Healing after such an extraction can be slow.
Bone Grafting
As a periodontist, your doctor is a highly trained specialist in grafting procedures that regenerate lost bone. They keep current with the latest research and advancements in bone grafting techniques so you will be provided with the highest quality treatment at all times. The use of advanced technology and materials makes bone grafting treatment precise, minimally invasive and efficient.

Orthodontics
Accelerated orthodontics is a treatment that can be performed on any teen or adult who has all their permanent teeth. This procedure is also advantageous for patients who have not responded to prior orthodontic treatment and have experienced issues such as teeth crowding, or who were told they needed surgery to move their jaws.
Braces
Your orthodontist will first place your braces, after which you will come to our office for the periodontal procedure. Both appointments will be scheduled in advance so everything works smoothly and comfortably for you.
