A tooth has two parts: the crown and the root. When a tooth falls out, the section of the jaw that supported the tooth has no purpose, so it withers and atrophies. Your remaining teeth are then supported by a weakened jaw. A missing tooth also increases the workload of remaining teeth, and to balance the load, teeth shift, which can cause spaces between teeth, food impaction, and tooth decay. After about four to eight years, remaining teeth will begin to fall out, as well. Up to 19% of adjacent teeth are lost as the result of a missing tooth. That’s five more lost teeth if you started with a full set!
Bridges
Insurance companies will often provide an alternative benefit for the implant situation. For example, when a patient suffers a vertically fractured tooth and submits a claim for an implant and crown, the insurance company may offer a benefit for a three unit, fixed bridge. A prosthetic benefit may be paid on the prosthetic work after an implant has been placed. This situation has frustrated implant dentists as well as patients. Insurance companies are likely to deny implant coverage to patients because these companies generally like to spend the minimum possible on insurance claims. For these reasons, we believe that insurance companies often provide reimbursement for acceptable services but not always for the best, or ideal, service for a particular situation.

Root Canal Treatment
Fixed bridges require reduction of abutment teeth, so that they can be fitted with caps. The replacement tooth is secured to the caps and literally bridges the gap between the abutment teeth. As with a partial, the missing tooth's root is not replaced, so the jawbone begins to atrophy. Bridges usually last about 10 years. After this time, surrounding teeth can begin to decay and may require root canal therapy. According to the ADA, patients with fixed bridges lose up to 10% of their remaining teeth.

In the vast majority of the cases, you won’t even notice the implants. We attempt to place implants under the gumline in an area where they are completely hidden from view. All that should be visible, most of the time, will be the final prosthetic product such as the crown, bridge, or an overdenture.

Oral Surgery
As with any procedure we perform, your physical safety remains our top concern. To prepare for an appointment in which you will receive IV sedation, do not eat or drink anything for eight hours prior to your procedure, except for prescription medications, unless advised otherwise. While you are under sedation, we closely monitor blood pressure, breathing, and heart rate. After your dental work, we stop the IV and let you rest comfortably for 15 to 20 minutes before you leave our office. If necessary, we prescribe pain management medication after your visit, particularly after an oral surgery. You must arrange to have a responsible adult drive you home from your appointment and remain with you until drowsiness wears off. You should be able to resume normal activities the day after the appointment.

Lindsay has been in dentistry since 2004 and been working at Cranbrook Dental Care since 2016. Lindsay has experience and knowledge in Pediatrics, Periodontics, Oral Surgery,Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, Implant Surgical and General dentistry. She has been married to her husband John since September of 2013. In August of 2016, they welcomed their first daughter Delilah and are expecting another baby girl in March 2019. In her free time Lindsay loves spending time with her family, 2 cats, college football, camping and other outdoor activities.

Hello my name is Carla. I am a Dental Sterilization Technician at Cranbrook Dental Care. I recently graduated in 2022 at Oakland Community College as a Sterile Processing Technician. I also graduated in 2014 at Dental Careers Institute of Michigan Inc. as a certified Dental Assistant. I like antiques, gardening and exercising. My passion for dentistry began in middle school when I asked my mother for braces to straighten my teeth and the results were beautiful. Based off that experience I believe everyone should have a beautiful smile.

Dr. Peter Namou attended Brother Rice High School and attended the accelerated dental program at University of Detroit Mercy, earning his Bachelor of Science, and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degrees in 2017. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and won multiple awards including the Pierre Fauchard Academy Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Dr Namou is currently on the Alumni Board of Directors. He is an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Academy of Implant Dentistry and American Academy of Facial Esthetics. Dr. Namou knew early in life that he had a passion for helping others. He has volunteered for two missions to Haiti to provide dental care to those lives who were upset by the earthquake in 2010, and hurricane Matthew in 2016. Now his dedication to helping others guides him as he works to provide patients with brighter and healthier smiles. Dr. Namou’s presence will broaden the scope of services that we offer, and we know you’ll enjoy his pleasant and relaxing demeanor. He looks forward to meeting you soon!!!
