Applebaum Renee PHD

Autism
Social communication disorders affect an individual’s ability to use their verbal and nonverbal skills appropriately and can negatively impact social interactions as well as the ability to maintain employment. Individuals with autism spectrum disorder have problems with their social skills, as do some people with traumatic brain injury.
Multiple Sclerosis
Cognitive and behavioral effects of non-traumatic brain disorders, such as strokes, anoxic brain injury (oxygen deprivation), toxic conditions, tumors, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurological conditions.
Epilepsy
Dr. Applebaum evaluates and treats hundreds of patient yearly with known or suspected neurological conditions, especially those with mild to moderate closed head injuries. In addition, this includes those who have suspected or documented primary degenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s or other neurological conditions such as stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, epilepsy and anoxic brain injuries. Finally, Dr. Applebaum regularly conducts neuropsychological assessments with late adolescents and adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Learning Disorders.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a condition where a person has trouble focusing, can get distracted easily, has difficulty with organization and time management, and at times one can become overly focused on very specific tasks. The diagnosis of ADHD is often best confirmed via comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation. The symptoms of ADHD can include much more than hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattentiveness, however. People with ADHD often have trouble tolerating frustration, being flexible, and solving their problems independently. Problems in daily life can include difficulty organizing, planning, managing time, managing finances, managing relationships, performing at school or maintaining a job.
Mental Health
Cassidy Azzow, MA, MAAT, TLLP earned her Master’s in Clinical Psychology from the Michigan School of Psychology in 2019 and her master’s in art therapy in 2017 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is currently in her fourth year of studies for her Doctor of Clinical Psychology degree at the Michigan School of Psychology. Areas of previous professional experience for Cassidy include administration and scoring of neuropsychological testing and individual psychotherapy with children and adults. She has worked with individuals with developmental disabilities, brain injuries and other general mental health concerns. At Renee Applebaum, Ph.D., PC, Cassidy practices administration and scoring of neuropsychological testing and provides individual psychotherapy. Cassidy has a passion for collaborating with her patients on their journey in order to understand themselves better, process and find solutions to life difficulties and circumstances and in turn live a more empowered and meaningful life. Her approach to therapy is unique to each person and she uses a combination of evidenced based and supportive approaches to help patients meet their goals.
