Medical Weight Loss
With hyperthyroidism, the thyroid gland has the opposite problem: it is overactive, producing too much thyroid hormone and speeding up metabolism. This leads to muscle weakness, rapid heartbeat, irritability and anxiety, trembling hands, weight loss, fatigue, diarrhea, vision problems, and an increased sensitivity to heat. The most common cause is Grave’s Disease; like Hashimoto’s Disease, the immune system produces antibodies that attack the thyroid gland but in this case, the result is an overproduction of hormones.

You might have an infection if you’re suffering an earache; difficulty hearing or muffled hearing; high temperature; or a liquid/pus draining from the ear. It’s important to consult your primary-care doctor and an ear, nose, and throat doctor immediately if you are suffering severely from these symptoms. This condition is usually caused by a buildup of liquid in the ear because of an inflamed drainage tube.

An ear infection is never something we want to deal with. However, it’s important to recognize the symptoms of this common condition and the available treatment options.
Sleep Disorders
Sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder that happens when breathing is repeatedly interrupted due to a blockage in your nose or throat. This disruption keeps you in light sleep rather than the restorative sleep you need to be fully functioning the next day. Other serious symptoms of sleep apnea may include weight gain, stroke, heart disease, and high blood pressure.
Emergency Care
If you’ve been struck in the nose, it’s important to see a physician to check for septal hematoma. Seeing your primary doctor or an emergency room physician is usually adequate to determine if you have a septal hematoma or other associated problems from your accident. If a septal hematoma is present, it must be treated promptly to prevent worse problems from developing in the nose. If you suspect your nose may be broken, see an otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon within one week of the injury. If you are seen within one to two weeks, it may be possible to repair your nose immediately. If you wait longer than two weeks (one week for children) you will likely need to wait several months before your nose can be surgically straightened and fixed.

The best treatment is prevention. The cause can be a bacterial or viral infection, so try to avoid germs as much as possible. Wash your hands frequently, keep your immune system healthy by getting sleep and drinking less alcohol, avoid secondhand smoke, stay current on immunizations, and be careful not to overuse antibiotics as they can increase bacterial resistance.

With so many different types of cancer, symptoms vary greatly and are dependent upon a number of factors, such as location and stage of the tumor. Some cancers won’t have symptoms until they have reached an advanced stage. Others, such as colon cancer, are accompanied by specific symptoms like blood in the stool, diarrhea, and constipation. Some general symptoms are found with most cancers; these include chills, fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, malaise, and night sweats.
Endoscopy
A doctor will be able to rule out the more serious conditions that could be causing your problems. Your physician will look at your medical history and ask you questions related to your loss of smell. He or she might recommend a CT or MRI scan, a nasal endoscopy, or possibly an x-ray of the skull. Based on the outcome of your visit with the doctor, you may be prescribed decongestants, antihistamines, or the use of a humidifier. Another solution may be increased vitamin A supplements.

Hypothyroidism
An underactive thyroid gland produces too little thyroid hormone, causing the body’s metabolism to slow down. Known as hypothyroidism, this leads to sluggishness and a variety of symptoms including fatigue, depression, weight gain, feeling cold, constipation, and dry skin. It is most often linked to Hashimoto’s Disease, a condition in which the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, limiting its capability to produce hormones.

Your thyroid regulates the amount of energy used by your body’s organs, and it controls oxygen and heat consumption. A thyroid gland that is either underactive or overactive can cause hormonal imbalances that affect the various organs of your body.

Thyroid cancer involves malignant tissue growth on the thyroid gland in the neck. There are different types of thyroid cancer, for which surgery is typically the main treatment.

Ultrasound
Thyroid disorders are usually diagnosed through tests that measure the levels of thyroid hormones in the blood. A radioactive iodide uptake test tracks how much iodide is absorbed by the thyroid gland, a good determination of the gland’s hormone production. Thyroid nodules are evaluated with ultrasound exams, and biopsies can test for thyroid cancer.

X-ray (radiographic) evaluation: Special X-rays are taken, usually computerized tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, to evaluate your inner ear anatomy.

There are a variety of diagnostic tests used to detect cancer. A biopsy, or removal of tissue for examination, is the most common test for cancer. CT scans can pinpoint the location and size of tumors. Other tests, including x-rays, blood tests, and MRIs, may also be used.
Chemotherapy
If it has not spread, surgery is a common approach. If it has invaded other parts of the body and can’t be surgically removed, treatment options include radiation and chemotherapy. Sometimes, a combination of all three procedures is necessary.
Radiation Therapy
The exact cause of pituitary tumors isn’t yet known, but in some cases a family history of hereditary conditions such as multiple endocrine neoplasia, type I, may be a risk factor. Treatment depends on aspects such as the tumor’s type, size, and extent of intrusion in the brain and can range from no treatment needed to medication, surgery, radiation therapy, hormone replacement, or a combination.
