Stroke Rehabilitation
The goal of rehabilitation after stroke is to teach you to become as independent as possible. The keystone to stroke rehabilitation is reteaching the brain to do the functions that have been affected by the stroke. The brain has an incredible ability to retrain a different area of the brain to take over the functions of the brain that have been lost due to the stroke. This is called neuroplasticity. “Neuro” refers to the brain cells and “plasticity” refers to the pliable nature of different brain cells to take over lost functions. With rehabilitation, brain cells regenerate, re-establish, and rearrange the needed brain circuits to resume lost functions despite the original cells and pathways having been damaged by the stroke. The brain effectively compensates for the dead or damaged brain cells. In instances where it cannot establish these new connections, rehabilitation works to teach the brain and body to compensate for the disabilities that occur due to the stroke.

In addition to our already rigorous cleaning and infection control practices, we are closely following the CDC guidelines to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease. We have ramped up the use of cleaning disinfectant and sanitization products on all surfaces, equipment, and handles. All therapy equipment, surfaces, and modalities/objects (ultrasound gel bottles, massage cream jars) are cleaned thoroughly after each patient session. Furthermore, we have removed frequently touched objects such as the candy jar, magazines, and pens to avoid unnecessary handling. There are multiple alcohol-based hand sanitizers throughout the clinic to allow frequent hand hygiene. We have modified scheduling to stagger patient flow to one patient per hour so there is no pateint to patient interaction. In addition, during the session, we request that you and your therapist use a face mask and gloves, which we provide. We are now offering telehealth option as well. Inna has a Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and both Master's and Doctorate degrees in physical therapy. She is also American Physical Therapy Association Board Certified in Orthopedics. Inna, who has successfully served as the clinical director for two years, joined Therapy Specialists, Inc. 20 years ago and has since helped create and develop the practice. Inna is a dynamic and innovative therapist with special skills treating orthopedic and sports related injuries. She is busy with her husband caring for their four children while still maintaining her commitment to personal physical fitness. Inna has lived in Russia and Israel and is fluent in Russian and Hebrew.
