Overall

I was very nervous about bring...

I was very nervous about bringing my 3 children to the dentist, but the staff and Dr. Hunt made our experience wonderful! The office was very kid friendly and I loved the ames to keep the kids busy as they each took a turn to get their teeth cleaned. The assistants in the back were gentle and interactive with my kids. And because one of my children already had xrays done they didn't charge me for new ones at their office. After a short tour of the back I felt very comfortable with letting my kids go back alone while I sat in the waiting room. My kids are already asking when they can go back! Thanks Dr. Hunt and Staff.

Every member of our team that is involved in providing dental care for your children is E.D.D.A (Expanded Dental Duty Assistant) certified. Their specific duties include the ability to provide cleanings and fluoride treatments for your children, sealants, taking x-rays, and assisting during sedations.
Dental Sealants
A sealant is a protective coating that is applied to the chewing surfaces (grooves) of the back teeth (premolars and molars), where four out of five cavities in children are found. This sealant acts as a barrier to food, plaque and acid, thus protecting the decay-prone areas of the teeth.

Crowns
Knocked Out Permanent Tooth: If possible, find the tooth. Handle it by the crown, not by the root. You may rinse the tooth with water only. DO NOT clean with soap, scrub or handle the tooth unnecessarily. Inspect the tooth for fractures. If it is sound, try to reinsert it in the socket. Have the patient hold the tooth in place by biting on a gauze or clean cloth. If you cannot reinsert the tooth, transport the tooth in a cup containing the patientâ€™s saliva or milk, NOT water. If the patient is old enough, the tooth may also be carried in the patientâ€™s mouth (beside the cheek). The patient must see a dentist IMMEDIATELY! Time is a critical factor in saving the tooth.

Pulpotomy
Dental caries (cavities) and traumatic injury are the main reasons for a tooth to require pulp therapy. Pulp therapy is often referred to as a "nerve treatment", "children's root canal", "pulpectomy" or "pulpotomy". The two common forms of pulp therapy in children's teeth are the pulpotomy and pulpectomy.
Root Canal Treatment
A pulpectomy is required when the entire pulp is involved (into the root canal(s) of the tooth). During this treatment, the diseased pulp tissue is completely removed from both the crown and root. The canals are cleansed, disinfected and, in the case of primary teeth, filled with a resorbable material. Then, a final restoration is placed. A permanent tooth would be filled with a non-resorbing material.

Dr. Hunt, a native of Morgan City, graduated from Morgan City High School, Louisiana State University and LSU School of Dentistry. She has completed a two-year residency in pediatric dentistry from LSU School of Dentistry in affiliation with Children’s Hospital of New Orleans. Dr. Hunt has received training in anesthesia, treatment of medically and physically compromised patients, orthodontics, and growth and development of children.

General Dentistry
Many general dentists identify their practices with the description of “Family Dentistry.” Most parents are often unaware that general dentistry does not require additional training and education beyond their four year graduation from dental school to treat children. Pediatric Dentistry, on the other hand, is recognized specialty which requires an additional two year residency after graduating dental school. Pediatric dentists are specially trained for the specific needs of children, especially dealing with anxiety that many children may have coming to the dentist.
