Hello, my name is Tanisha. I was born and raised in California and moved out to Texas in 2012. I began my career in the Ophthalmology field in 2007, and I received my COA certification in 2011. I have been with the McCormick Vision Source family since September of 2014 as the lead technician and clinical manager. I take great pleasure in helping our patients and meeting new people. I have three girls, we love exploring, hiking, and going to the lake.
Macular Degeneration
Those who spend extended amounts of time on the computer would also be wise to note another factor that often contributes to computer related discomfort and may even be potentially sight-threatening: blue light. This high-energy light comes from computer screens, televisions and smartphones, and has been known to cause eyestrain, headaches and fatigue. Recent studies also point to growing evidence that blue light exposure has the potential to significantly increase a person's risk of macular degeneration over time.
Laser Eye Surgery
Dr Michael McCormick was born and raised in the Texas panhandle.Â Dr. McCormick worked with refractive surgeons in Houston working on FDA clinical trials of the excimer laser used in LASIK. He also interned with contact lens specialists working with custom lens design and clinical research.
Cataracts
Cataracts: The rate of progression of myopia has been linked to the development of cataracts. The higher the level of myopia in a child, the faster the rate cataracts can develop when they get older.

Jolene’s work in eye health began many years ago in 1988 when she began as an Optmetric technician and then for three years as a Certified Opthalmic Assistant at a Cataract Surgery Center in Humble, Texas. Although she has not been consistantly working in eye care since then she has enjoyed coming full circle and joining her husband in 2016 when he became the owner of McCormick Vision Source. When not at work Jolene enjoys reading, gardening, reading, traveling, and primarily playing with her grandaughter and visiting her three grown children.

Multiple Sclerosis
The optic nerve connects the eye directly to the brain and is to some extent an extension of the central nervous system. Swelling or inflammation of the optic nerve can therefore be viewed as an early sign of multiple sclerosis. Although this kind of swelling can also indicate a number of other ailments or even a viral infection or vitamin deficiency, about 20% of people with multiple sclerosis first experienced swelling of the optic nerve.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Difficulty concentrating or acting fidgety can often be misdiagnosed as ADHD when in reality, the child has developed vision problems. Symptoms can include headaches, tiredness from schoolwork or playing sports, or excessive squinting at the board. Children develop rapidly, especially in the early childhood years. This is why doctors recommend regular exams to check how their vision is advancing and to detect any potential problems. The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends regular eye exams at age 6 months, 3 years, when a child begins school, and every 2 years after that.

Diabetic Retinopathy
One of the main risks of diabetes is a condition called diabetic retinopathy, which is associated with consistently elevated blood sugar levels, and can result in damage to the blood vessels and leakage of fluid onto the retina and macula. This can lead to significant vision loss, including blindness: Timely detection and treatment, combined with a healthy lifestyle and diet, can help minimize the impact of both diabetes and diabetic retinopathy.

Computed Tomography
Similar to a traditional CT scan, an OCT Scan (Optical Coherence Tomography) checks for eye diseases by examining the layers of your retina and optic nerve. This test involves the use of a laser with light to provide the doctor with detailed, colored images of the retina. There is no radiation and the test is painless and non-invasive.

Dry eye syndrome is more common in women, possibly due to hormone fluctuations. Recent research suggests that smoking, too, can increase your risk of dry eye syndrome. Dry eye has also been associated with incomplete lid closure following blepharoplasty â€“ a popular cosmetic surgery to eliminate droopy eyelids.
Cosmetic Surgery

Ulcer
Getting something stuck in your eye can be excruciating. Even a tiny eyelash that falls into the eye can be very painful and immediately cause your eyes to water, itch, burn, or sting. If a foreign particle gets into your eye, rinse your eye with cold water for 15 minutes. If that doesnâ€™t wash it away, seek medical care immediately. A sharp piece of debris like a tiny shard of glass or pebble can scratch the cornea, known as a corneal abrasion. A deep abrasion can lead to eye infection or a corneal ulcer, so if you experience a foreign substance in your eye without successfully flushing it out on your own, contact your eye doctor as soon as possible.
