Sometimes, fertility treatment for men is necessary to help a couple welcome a baby. Endometriosis
Endometriosis is normal uterine lining in an abnormal location. Every month as your egg develops, the cells around the egg (“granulosa cells”) make estrogen. This estrogen causes your uterine lining to thicken. When you ovulate, the granulosa cells undergo some changes that cause them to make both estrogen and progesterone to stabilize the uterine lining and prepare it for pregnancy. If you are not pregnant, estrogen and progesterone production stop and the uterine lining dies and comes out.

Hypothyroidism
TSH or thyroid stimulating hormone is secreted by the pituitary gland and acts on the thyroid gland to cause the secretion of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4). A high TSH levels typically indicates that thyroid hormones are not being produced (hypothyroidism), whereas a low TSH may indicate hyperthyroidism. Both hypo and hyperthyroidism can interfere with normal ovulation.
Thyroid
In addition to assessing general health, this examination is focused on evaluating several specific causes of infertility, including thyroid disease, uterine enlargement, and abdominal or pelvic tenderness. A transvaginal ultrasound examination looking at the uterus, ovaries, and surrounding pelvic structures completes the initial visit. The combination of a thorough medical history, a problem-oriented physical examination, and a high-quality transvaginal ultrasound examination will frequently help the physician direct his or her focus and shorten the time to a correct diagnosis.

Ultrasound
The diagnostic criteria established by the National Institute of Health in 1990 require the presence of both a chronic failure to ovulate as well as clinical evidence of excess male hormone (androgen) production. Symptoms associated with androgen excess include acne, deepening of the voice, and excessive hair growth in a male pattern. In 2003, the diagnostic criteria for PCOS were revised to include rare or a complete absence of ovulation combined with either evidence of male hormone production or a polycystic ovarian appearance diagnosed by ultrasound.

Hysterectomy
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a term given to a condition that affects a subset (approximately 10-20%) of women with ovulatory dysfunction. The condition was initially described in 1935 by Dr. Stein and Dr. Leventhal as an anatomical disorder based on appearance of ovaries at hysterectomy. It was not until the 1960s that PCOS was recognized as an endocrine disorder and it was finally recognized to actually be a metabolic disorder in 2000.
Laparoscopy
Fewer scars. Laparoscopy usually requires between 1 and 3 very small incisions (1/4 to 1/2 in.) in the lower abdomen, along with an incision in the navel (about 1/2 in.). Hysteroscopy doesn’t require any incisions.
