Glaucoma is known as â€œthe silent thief of sight.â€ Most people have no symptoms until permanent vision loss has already occurred. Regular comprehensive eye exams are the key in the diagnosis of glaucoma.

Macular Degeneration
A comprehensive eye examination will evaluate not only how well you see, but also identify potential eye diseases. Some eye diseases, such as glaucoma and macular degeneration, can result in serious vision loss if not detected and treated early. Often, patients with these diseases do not experience any visual symptoms before vision loss occurs. The examination will take approximately 1.5 hours depending on which tests need to be performed.
Laser Eye Surgery
LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a safe, reliable and painless way to improve vision and reduce or eliminate the need to wear glasses or contact lenses. Lasik changes the way light is bent, or refracted, as it passes through the cornea so that it focuses properly on the retina and objects can be seen clearly.
Cataracts
Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is a chronic, progressive abnormality of the oil glands of the eyes and is the leading cause of dry eye disease (DED). MGD has been linked with loss of productivity at home/work, contact lens intolerance and can negatively impact the outcome of cataract and refractive surgery. If left untreated, it can lead to oil gland constipation and eventual irreversible gland drop out/loss.
Cataract Surgery
If surgery is necessary, a preoperative appointment is scheduled with your surgeon approximately one to two weeks prior to the procedure. During the exam, a mutual decision is reached between you and your surgeon to finalize the best choices for cataract surgery. We use two independent systems to obtain IOL measurements. Our double-method technique maximizes the accuracy of the implant power for the best visual outcome.
Eye Exam
What to expect at your eye exam Your doctor will most likely dilate the pupils of your eyes to see the optic nerve and retina at the back of your eyes. The dilation takes 15-30 minutes to become effective and it may make your vision a little blurry and sensitive to bright light for a few hours. We recommend you bring sunglasses and a driver, if possible, to take you home. We will provide disposable sunglasses if you need them.

Internal Medicine
Dr. Perszyk completed his internship at University of North Dakota Internal Medicine Department / Sanford Medical Center in North Dakota. He then went on to the University of Kentucky Department of Ophthalmology in Lexington, KY for his residency before completing his prestigious glaucoma fellowship training at University of South Florida in Tampa.
