Gabriel Building Supply (Amite)

Walter the gent just before me said all the good things about Gabriel's which I agree with however the guys out back haven't always been as friendly as those folks up front...and you had better bring a tape measure with you because they will load the wrong size on to your truck which happened to me which delayed me starting my project because I didn't have the right size lumber.

You are always greeted upon entering. The store is always clean and well stocked and organized. Unlike the super large retailers like LOWE'S or Home Depot, where no one asks you what you need, and it's very difficult to get help, the friendly staff at Gabriel's only waits a few moments to ask you if you need help finding something. Gabriel"s has a full line of hardware and lumber, and at very competitive prices. The guys out back who take your loading ticket are fast, friendly, and helpful. I have never had a negative experience at Gabriel"s, either in the Amite store or the one in Ponchatoula. You are in and out and on your way back home as quickly and efficiently as a neighborhood convenience store. Let me just say something by contrast. 2 nights ago my wife and I had to go to Hammond for something. We decided to stop at LOWE'S for a couple of things. It was 7:30 at night. I had to look all over about half the store before I could find a clerk who could help us find what we needed. He told us that yesterday there were only 4 sales clerks all day long in that whole cavernous store. That is ridiculous. Gabriel's has more sales clerks on the floor than that. They see you when you enter and are immediately at your service.
