Overall

Unethical. I took my car to have an oil change and fix a falling engine undercover. The guy calls me 4 times throughout the day telling me I have more items that need to be addressed which the total came out to be about $5k for a 15 year old Volkswagan Jetta. I said okay to 3k (after the 3rd call), but after he kept calling and increasing the price now up to $5k I sensed that this person was just trying to get money and had lost all my trust. I said stop all the work and just price me for what you've done; he says he's taken the front tires off and was about to do the brakes. I said put the tires back on and forget the brakes but go ahead and charge for the time if you need to. I'm pretty upset at this point. When I get to the shop, I'm trying to be civil but this guy starts off with "hahaha, I was fighting with this engineer all day about pricing. They sure are stingy." 1 - I wasn't even haggling 2 - what does my profession have to do with whether I want to pay. And then this guy kept nagging me about why I wanted the work stopped, I wanted to polite and breft and said if I have to shell out $5k for repairs I might as well start looking for a new car that's more reliable. He then says "Oh so are you going to get a Mercedes then? Or maybe a BMW?" Obviously I can't afford that if I can't pay for 5k on my car...

So all in all, I pay $250 for an oil change, a fix-up for the hanging engine undercover, brake light replacement.

A month later, the hanging engine undercover comes off and then the oil cover is hanging off. I take it to another mechanic and they tell me that the screws weren't tightened on for the oil and the cover that's why it fell the way it did. Thanks- I hope that $250 was worth it.

EDIT - Also looks like my review on surecritic.com got removed...I didn't realize this could happen. I have the email confirmation that it was submitted and her response. The 4 stars that surecritic gives that company is inflated and incorrect. The owner keeps pretty good tabs on these reviews. If only she were that way with how the shop ran.

This was her response from surecritic:

I truly apologize for any comments that the Service Writer made that were unprofessional.

Our rates are average for the same type of shop and we work with customers to help them fit the repairs into their budgets. We are a Certified Repair Auto Repair shop with a Nationwide 12,000 miles or 1 year warranty and our Techs are ASE Certified Master Techs.Thank you for your business and comments and we will work on our end to be more professional.

I have been going to Nob Hill ...

I have been going to Nob Hill Complete Auto since October of 2010 and have nothing but great service. This was one of the very few auto shops that are honest about their work. I had some starter problems in December of 2010, took it in and they stated they couldn't repeat my problems and rather than throw money at the vehicle, they recommended waiting until it had problems again to bring it in. This was nice because it showed they told exactly what was going on, not just fixing it because I requested it. When it did quit starting again the following weekend, I called them at 1:50pm on a saturday, requested them to fix it, they told me to bring it in, they ordered, picked up the part and when I arrived about 2:30pm, my vehicle went directly inside and it was installed and I was out the door by 3:00pm. They have very fast service and knowledgeable about what to do and when to do it. Also in the same month on the same vehicle, I had to replace u-joints both front and rear, rear was recommended first due to wear but the front I was able to wait until January of 2011, because they recommended waiting until it needs it done, not just fixing everything to make money for themselves. They are always willing to take me back to work when I drop my car off and have a great waiting room. I won't take my vehicles to anyother shop due to their great work that they do for me.

These guys are great! I am a s...

These guys are great! I am a small business owner and needed a very reliable used car. They did 3 pre purchase inspections for me and found me the right one. 10k miles later I haven't had any surprises. They are fair and honest, and being a woman its great to have a mechanic that doesn't talk down to me. I never leave there feeling like they were taking advantage of my lack of knowledge. I recommend these guys 100%.
