Overall
Cold food and lackluster service.

Last night, we had the worst food and the worst service I have ever had at any of the Los Cuates restaurants in 20 years. Obviously, we've enjoyed their restaurants food and service over the years or we wouldn't have kept going.

My daughters fajitas were cold, my other daughters cheese enchiladas were over cooked to the point of the cheese being too hard to cut with a fork. My wifes cheese enchiladas with extra cheese didn't have it. The first piece that I cut out of my chicken enchiladas was a big hunk of bone and gristle (no exageration). My parents wern't eating, just pushing things around on their plates (They're in thier 80's and won't tell you when something's wrong with thier food, they just won't eat it.).

Then, there was our server. A young, hispanic girl with glasses. I would tell you her name, but she never told it to us, never smiled and took at least 5 min to acknowledge us in her section and then she just asked what we wanted to drink. No 'hello', no 'welcome to LC'. My daughter asked her for a different Arnold Palmer because hers tasted watery, she brought her back one that was basically just tea. We asked for a glass for my fathers beer - she never brought it, but she did put a (I'm not making any of this up) dried up brown edged lime on top of his bottle. I saw him squeezing it and he could only got a few drops out of it.

When my daughter with the fajitas received her plate, not only was the food cold, but the skillet as barely warm to the touch. I can't tell you how long our food must have been sitting in the window waiting for her to take it out to the table, but I can tell you that my plate was just warm to hold. Like I stated earlier, we've been coming to LC for 20 years. Your plates don't come out of the kitchen barely warm, they're oven hot and I've never seen a fajita skillet come to a table without the food sizzling, let alone being able to hold it in your bare hands. We asked the waitress to bring her another one because it was cold. She took it and rolled her eyes at us for the second time as she walked off. She came back with it about 2 - 3 minutes at most on a sizzling skillet. Sounds good, right? Except it was the same cold food dumped from a cold skillet to a hot one and returned to us. The food was still cold, my daughter touched it before and after it was returned. Same temp.

Insulting and the last straw.

I did ask to speak to the manager. She listened and looked around like she was bored or had heard it too many times before. Not concerned at all. She didn't apologize for the food or for the service. Nor did she make any attempt to retain us as customers. She just brought out the check and acted like she was doing us a favor by not charging us for the food we couldn't eat.

We've lived on the west side of Albuquerque for the last 15 years, so it's quite a drive and time to go accross town for dinner in their establishment, but it has been one of the places that everyone could agree on.

We are all still in agreement. However, after last night, it's not what we were in agreement about before.

Sincerely, ChiliLover.

PS - I don't know who the owners are now since LC was sold to Little Anita's years ago, but I hope they see this. Most customers are like that couple sitting next to us, they don't say a thing. They just vote with thier checkbooks somewhere else. Management doesn't seem involved enough.

Overall
A GLOB OF GRIZZLE

My experience was not good. My mother & I ordered steak and enchiladas and got 12 ounces of grizzle. The steak was completely unedible. We decided to complain to the manager who did nothing for us except promise to talk to the cook about it.

Overall
Good

The food is good, the prices are great and the service is good. The restaurant seems a little noisy but clean.

We're proudly locally owned since 1980. Many other restaurants and national chain eateries have come and gone in that time, and we're still one of Albuquerque's favorite places to eat. Come in and find out why. At Los Cuates, we're not one of those restaurants that gauges the quality of food by its hotness. For over 35 years, we've been serving New Mexican cuisine known for its flavorful palate that gives you a kick without being overwhelming. Our recipes are spiced perfect. Come in to one of our three Albuquerque locations and try our chips and salsa - we guarantee you've never tried salsa like this. Enjoy our hacienda-style ambiance while savoring our menu of always-fresh authentic New Mexico classics. Our signature dish is the chile relleno. Each carefully selected Anaheim chile pepper is peeled, stuffed and roasted daily in our kitchen. We should warn you, they're very addicting.
