Southern Middle School is a part of the Moore County School District, which operates several elementary, middle and high schools. Southern Middle School s staff includes classroom and resource teachers, specialists, counselors, nurses and custodial personnel. Its academic curriculum includes various subjects, such as math, science, social studies and language arts. The school also offers courses in career and technology education and foreign languages. It supports a variety of extracurricular programs in art and health and physical education. In addition, Southern Middle School offers the English as a Second Language program. As a GAL Volunteer in Moore County, I had occasion to visit two students at SMS. I was greeted warmly in the reception/office area and stated my business. LaTanya was professional and eager to help me. I visited with the two students in a comfortable room conducive to the interview I conducted with them. My visit to SMS was an overall first class experience.
