New Orleans Quick Guide
If the resurgence of tourism and dogged determination of the locals is any clue, Hurricane Katrina will not be the event that defines New Orleans. From beignets to Bourbon Street, the Crescent City is coming back with even more bravado.
The soul of this city seemed to be shaken to the core back in August 2005, and the tragedy that ensued afterwards - especially in the 9th Ward - will be a persistent memory.
But the people that call "Nawlins" home are hearty, like a hot bowl of Gumbo, the famous okra and roux-based stew that originated here. No matter what you throw in, the mix gets better every time.
City Hall still stands at 1300 Perdido Street, just outside of the Warehouse Arts District. Several core city services continue to recover in the aftermath of Katrina, so it's a good idea to call the city first to get help finding the departments and services you need. The City Hall Operator can be reached by calling (504) 658-4000.

Where to Go in New Orleans
If you're visiting New Orleans for the first time, finding places to go will not pose a problem. From the regal shops and cafes of Royal in the upper French Quarter, to the bawdy and ever hoppin' Bourbon Street, the historic and beautifully preserved French Quarter has it all. While there, be sure to catch a live jazz performance at the legendary Preservation Hall.
The St. Charles Streetcar is your ticket to see the natural beauty of New Orleans' Garden District. Once there, plan your day around a walking tour of the area's architecturally magnificent mansions.
Audubon Park is located just beyond the Garden District via streetcar stop 36. The park is actually home to the similarly-named Audubon Zoo; the Aquarium of the Americas; the Entergy IMAX Theatre; and a beautiful golf course in the midst of the park's flora and fauna.
Things to Do in New Orleans
The city's tourism slogan says it best: "New Orleans is happenin' every day." From blues to beignets, and jazz to jambalaya, you'll find any number of amusements to whet your appetite and satisfy your very soul in "The Big Easy."
It might be something close to sacrilegious to miss out on the epicure's tour of New Orleans. While Cajun, Creole and French cuisine rule, you'll also find a delicious hybrid of Creole-Italian fare at Tommy's in the Warehouse District, or try a night in Tunisia at Jamila's, which specializes in Tunisian delicacies.
Whether you try a new cuisine, find a new hangout or take up a new hobby, New Orleans's varied neighborhoods and rich mix of cultures make it easy to find new things to do and places to go.
